Our dog Dallas has the run of the neighborhood and is always getting into trouble. The family next door has several pets including a rabbit that is kept in a cage in the back yard. Dallas loves to go over and bark at the rabbit in the cage.

Late at night last week I was greeted by Dallas. She had in her mouth the neighbor’s dead rabbit. I was horrified thinking about the neighbor’s reaction when they found out that Dallas had killed their beloved pet. With that thought in mind I snuck over to their back yard and placed the dead rabbit back in the cage.

Several days had passed without a word from my neighbor when I saw him at the mailbox. He came over to me and began to tell me how something very strange had happened last week. He went on to say that his pet rabbit had died from old age and he buried it in his back yard. The next day he found it back in its cage. I never said a word.
